These homeowners have a beautiful house that they love, but there were a few things about their primary bathroom that were not working for them. Since the homeowners added the primary bedroom suite to the existing house over ten years ago, it was time for a fresh new bathroom that better fit their current needs. Their first request was adding more natural light to brighten the current narrow and dark primary bathroom. Secondly, the clients wanted to find space in their already crowded bathroom to add a freestanding bathtub. They knew the space limitations would make it difficult, but we were up for the challenge.

One of the first things we did was add a new large window to the center of the bathroom. This one simple change made a huge impact on the look and feel of the entire space. Now daylight pours into the bathroom, and fills every corner, and the homeowners are able to enjoy outside treetop views of their front yard. The daylight bounces off the new barrel vault ceiling that was installed to accentuate the height of this narrow space and take advantage of unused attic space above. The light is allowed to travel through the newly added transoms installed over the new bathroom doors and into the once dark and closed off primary closets. We partnered with a  local architect who advised on the placement of the window, to ensure the balance to the front of the house.

The once long and awkward primary closet was reconfigured to find space for a luxurious freestanding tub. The once narrow and crowded primary closet was reconfigured into separate his and hers closets to make the most of the remaining space. A second door to the bathroom was added to create a circular pathway from the primary bedroom through each closet into the bathroom, making for a better flow and eliminating any dead spaces.

Custom reeded white oak cabinetry was expertly crafted to the homeowners exact specifications. Careful planning went into finding a storage space for everything in this primary suite. A shallow cabinet was built into the toilet room to utilize every square inch of space and tuck away all necessities.   A living unlacquered brass finish was selected for all of the hardware and plumbing fixtures to give the bathroom a warm and natural quality.

Smooth, creamy dolomite marble tile was installed on the floor and shower walls, and a warm veined bianco rhino marble was used for the countertop bringing light and texture to the surfaces of this bathroom. A decorative marble detail was brought up the wall to meet the new window and help create a focal point.

Now these homeowners are able to enjoy a bright and functional primary suite that suits the rest of the house that they love. The light and luxurious materials make this primary bathroom a space they will enjoy for years to come.
