This mid 50’s house walked the line of being a craftsman house with its mid-century modern details.  With a quick architectural study of the existing floor plan of the house and closely listening to the homeowners wants and desires, plans were drawn for a new screened-in porch with a fireplace, long lasting, beautiful finishes and quick access from the primary bedroom.

The porch floor received brazilian hardwood deckboards that are naturally beautiful, long lasting, and rot and fire resistant - all installed with hidden fasteners to make for a smooth surface. The oversized fireplace received some special brick details, inspired by both form and function; large hearth for seating, arched top firebox opening for good looks, and a stepped out brick mantel for stockings at Christmas.

Custom built-on-site outdoor cabinetry housed a beverage center and subwoofer for the speaker system on one side and extra blanket storage for those cold winter evenings by the fire on the other.

Exposed rafters with tongue and groove decking were painted in a crisp and classic black and white palette. Oversized screen systems maintain the full views out to the wooded backyard. A custom, narrow handrail detail speaks to the clean, crisp lines of the house. Replacing the primary bedroom windows with new french doors directly onto the porch created a shortcut to the kitchen. Lastly, install of elegant and modern lighting, couches, and rugs helped pull it all together, turning this screen porch into an outdoor living room with all the comforts of home.
